Brazil’s January 2010 poultry exports of 233,000 metric tons were 15% lower than in January 2009, according to DTN/The Progressive Farmer. The Brazilian Chicken Producers and Exporters Association, or ABEF (Associação Brasileira dos Produtores e Exportadores de Frangos), said that lower demand from Venezuela explained most of the drop.
The Brazilian Pork Industry and Exporter Association, or ABIPECS (Associação Brasileira da Indústria Produtora e Exportadora de Carne Suína), reported a 3% year-to-year rise in pork exports in January 2010, for a total of 39,000 metric tons.
