Fifty people began work March 11 at a new Shenandoah Processing poultry plant in Harrisonburg, Va. Processing has not yet started, as employees are still transitioning the building for the new poultry operation.
The new Shenandoah Processing facility will serve the growing market for organically raised and "all-natural" chicken. Shenandoah Processing will provide processing services for Shenandoah Valley Organic, a poultry growing operation.
Chickens are expected to be brought to the site on March 13, according to news reports.
On December 9, 2013, Shenandoah Processing President Corwin Heatwole, along with Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, announced that the newly-formed poultry company would open a poultry processing facility in a plant in Harrisonburg, formerly operated by Pilgrim's.
