Eggs set by US commercial broiler hatcheries increase by 3 percent

    Commercial broiler hatcheries in the U.S. set 200 million broiler eggs in incubators during the week ending August 3. The number of broiler eggs set is up 3 percent from the corresponding week during 2012, but down about 1 million from the previous week.
    The average hatchability of broiler eggs was at 84 percent for the second consecutive week, according to the USDA broiler hatchery report, released on August 7.
    The report also showed that 167 million broiler chicks were placed during the week ending August 3, an equal number to the amount of broiler chicks placed during the previous week, and there was a two-percent increase in the number of chicks placed during the comparable week in 2012.

Broiler eggs set, chicks placed up 1 percent


    Commercial hatcheries in the United States Department of Agriculture's 19-state weekly program set 200 million eggs in incubators during the week ending March 16, according to the agency's weekly broiler hatchery report. This was up 1 percent from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.
    Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 84 percent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
    Broiler growers in the 19-state weekly program, meanwhile, placed 165 million chicks for meat production during the same week. Placements were up 1 percent from the comparable week a year earlier. Cumulative placements from December 30, 2012 through March 16 for the 19-state total were 1.80 billion, up 1 percent from the same period a year earlier.

Broiler hatchery data shows continued trend of growth


    Broiler-type eggs set in commercial hatcheries reached 197 million for the week ending February 9, up one percent from the same week a year ago, according to the US Department of Agriculture's Broiler Hatchery report, released on February 13.
    This growth continues a trend, where prior hatchery reports showed similar growth in its reports for the previous four weeks.
    Average hatchability was at 84 percent, unchanged from one week ago.
    Broiler growers participating in the 19-state weekly program placed 162 million chicks for meat production during the week of February 9, up just slightly from the same week in 2012. Cumulative placements from December 30, 2012, through February 9 amounted to 977 million, up one percent from the same period a year ago.

US egg-type chicks hatched up in August

U.S. egg-type chicks hatched during August totaled 41.6 million, up 12% from August 2010, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Eggs in incubators totaled 39.1 million on Sept. 1, up 5% from the same time in 2010. Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 311 thousand during August, up 23% from August 2010.
Broiler-type chicks hatched during August 2011 totaled 761 million, down 5% from August 2010. Eggs in incubators totaled 601 million on Sept. 1, down 6% from the same time in 2010. Leading breeders placed 7.23 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during August 2011, down 1% from August 2010.

US egg, broiler chicks hatched down in July

Egg-type chicks hatched during July 2011 in the U.S. totaled 37.4 million, down 2% from July 2010, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Eggs in incubators totaled 37.1 million on August 1, up 11% from 2010 numbers. Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks totaled 232,000 during July, up 6% from July 2010.
Broiler-type chicks hatched in July totaled 770 million, down 4% from July 2010. Eggs in incubators totaled 610 million on August 1, down 6% from the same time in 2010. Leading breeders placed 6.44 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks in July, down 3% from the same time in 2010.

Commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly program set 195 million eggs in incubators during the week ending July 30, down 6% from the eggs set the corresponding week in 2010, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's latest report.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 85%. Broiler growers in the program placed 163 million chicks for meat production during the week, down 4% from the same week in 2010. Cumulative placements from January 2 through July 30 were 5.10 billion, down slightly from the same period in 2010.

US broiler-type eggs set, chicks hatched up 2% from 2010

U.S. broiler-type eggs set and broiler-type chicks hatched were both up 2% from 2010 for the week ending April 2, 2011, according to the USDA.

Commercial hatcheries in the 19-State weekly program set 208 million eggs in incubators during the reported week. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 84%. Broiler growers in the same program placed 173 million chicks for meat production during the reported week. Placements were up 2% from the same week in 2010. Cumulative placements from January 2, 2011 through April 2, 2011 were 2.20 billion, up 1% from the same period in 2010.

Deep South Poultry Conference set for April 7

The Deep South Poultry Conference is scheduled for Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at the Tifton Campus Conference Center at the Rural Development Center, Tifton, Ga.
The conference’s general session starts at 9 a.m. with presentations on reducing energy usage by Mike Czarick, University of Georgia Bio and Ag Engineering, and lighting for poultry by Mike Darre, University of Connecticut. On-site registration and a continental breakfast are at 8 a.m.

First quarter U.S. chick placements down 6%

Cumulative broiler chick placements in the U.S. from December 28, 2008 through March 28, 2009 were 2.18 billion, down 6% from the same period a year earlier, according to the USDA Broiler Hatchery report.
The decline in weekly chick placements has varied somewhat from week to week, but the number of chicks placed has always been lower than last year.
Week ending March 28, 2009 chick placements were down 8% from the same week in 2008. The number of boiler eggs set in incubators last week was down 7% from the same period in 2008.
