HatchTraveller chosen for Saudi Arabian hatchery transport

HatchTraveller will be able to transport more than 62,000 chicks per truck.
HatchTech announced that Saudi Grandparent Poultry Co. selected HatchTraveller to transport its day-old chicks across Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries in the Gulf region. HatchTraveller is the transportation arm of HatchTech, an incubation technology supplier.
HatchTraveller will ensure chicks maintain their optimal body temperature and body functions independently of outside climate conditions, which is essential given the inability of chicks to regulate their own body temperature during the first days of life. Extreme weather conditions in the Gulf region and long transport distances  up to 48 hours  also threaten the health of day-old chicks. HatchTraveller trucks are equipped with a climate control system based on HatchTech's laminar airflow technology and perforated radiators. The system ensures that the body temperature of every chick in the truck is kept at a constant 104F — the neutral body temperature which enables chicks to make optimum use of their nutrients.
Saudi Grandparent Poultry Co., a hatchery built by HatchTech, is located near the city of Arar in the northern region of Saudi Arabia. The company produces breeder chicks, and the hatchery has a capacity of more than 16 million eggs a year. The Saudi Grandparent Poultry Co. hatchery has been selected by Cobb, an international poultry breeder, to distribute its breed in the region. The chicks will be transported in two HatchTraveller trucks, which have a capacity of 67,200 day-old chicks each.

Malaysian hatchery integrates new technology

Hyfresh Group is a fully integrated poultry business, with a feedmill, a breeder farm and broiler farms in several Malaysian States. The company supplies chicken to three broiler processing plants in Sri Sulong, which also serves as headquarter for the company, in Pedas Halal Park and in Singapore.
Dato Sri Pua Tian Siong, managing director said, "The integrated model is borne out of necessity. Well-managed, it is a competitive model that delivers a fair return." Hyfresh Group has plotted a path for further successful growth.
"We will grow with the market and by 2016, Hyfresh Group will need another 24 sets of incubators to meet the growing demand for our day-old chicks" said executive director Pua Tian Haw.
Hyfresh Group uses SmartPro single stage incubation from Pas Reform. The first six sets of SmartPro incubators at Kuantan Hatchery have been operational for more than six months.
Hatchery managers say they have seen higher percentage hatchability since the installation of Pas Reform incubation technologies. Dr. Khaw Eng San, the Group's Poultry Integration Planner, concurs, "Hyfresh Group selected Pas Reform based on its people, its advanced SmartPro incubation system, the cost of ownership and overall value of investment. Based now also on results, I would say it was a good choice."

Food, agriculture group replaces incubators at Swedish hatchery

Lantmännen Swehatch -- part of one of the Nordic area’s largest groups within food, energy, machinery and agriculture -- has recently replaced six incubators in its hatchery in Väderstad, Sweden, with Petersime BioStreamer incubators. At the same time, 12 other Petersime incubators have been upgraded.
In January, six Petersime BioStreamer 12S setters, completely equipped with Embryo-Response Incubation technology, were installed in the Väderstad hatchery. Moreover, 12 AirStreamer incubators have been upgraded with Petersime’s Eco-Drive technology – a system that reduces the incubator’s energy consumption by up to 50 percent by reducing pulsator speed at less critical times during the incubation process.
To get the upgraded hatchery running at its full potential in the shortest possible period of time, Lantmännen Swehatch signed up for Petersime’s Hatchery Guidance ProgramPLUS, a service pack that includes training sessions, remote supervision, an incubation guide, and several hatchery visits by Petersime incubation specialists.
“We have been working with Petersime equipment since the very beginning, and the company has shown itself to be a trustworthy partner in terms of equipment quality and customer service all along,” said hatchery manager, Christoffer Anderson. "The new BioStreamer incubators are already producing the top quality and uniform chicks and that we aim for.”

Aviagen studies storage, hatchability improvement methods

Aviagen tests in the U.S., Europe and Australasia have demonstrated improvements in hatchability and chick quality when stored eggs are given short periods at incubation temperature during storage, a method the researchers have called SPIDES.
Normally, according to the researchers, extended egg storage causes lower hatchability and higher cull rates. The SPIDES method seems to offset these effects. To date, the SPIDES technique has been found to give 2 percent to 3 percent better hatch in eggs stored for 7–14 days and significantly more when they are stored for over two weeks. After a series of replicated experiments, field testing is currently being undertaken in Aviagen hatcheries around the world. Researchers are now focusing on how the technique can be applied on a commercial scale.
"The SPIDES technique will not completely prevent the decline in hatch due to long egg storage, but it can limit the loss and give much more predictability," said the researchers. "Aviagen believes it will be of considerable interest to the poultry industry."
