Brazil's 2011-2012 corn crop is 51.7% planted as of October 28, up 12.3% from a week earlier and 1.4% ahead of the same time in 2010, according to local consultancy Celeres.
The southern state of Parana has 88% of its cornfields planted, and southern state Rio Grande do Sul has 66% of its fields sown, according to reports. Estimates predict that Brazil's summer crop will yield 37.41 million metric tons of corn, up 13% from the 2010-2011 crop. Total production should come in at 59.46 metric tons, up 11% from 2010-2011.
