JBS posts profit for second quarter 2012

JBS S.A. has posted a net income of R$212.4 million (US$104.5 million) for the second quarter of 2012, up significantly from its net loss of R$246.7 million (US$121.4 million) during the same quarter in 2011, according to the company's latest financial report.
JBS USA Chicken (Pilgrim’s Corporation) posted a net revenue of US$1.98 billion and EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of US$125.7 million during the period, reversing the loss of US$47.6 million during the same time in 2011. "Over the past 60 days, there was a sharp rise in grain prices, bringing a challenging scenario for the U.S. poultry industry which should be perceived mainly in the fourth quarter of 2012," said JBS. "However, the company believes that the industry has the instruments and will work to pass on the increase in production costs to selling prices, thus preserving the profitability of the business."
