Cooper Farms and Weaver Brothers have jointly purchased Perham Egg, an egg-breaking facility in Fort Recovery, Ohio. The facility’s name will be changed to CW Egg Products LLC, said Gary Cooper, chief operating officer of Cooper Farms.
Weaver Brothers is a producer and processor of shell eggs, while Cooper Farms produces turkeys, hogs and chicken eggs.
The recently purchased egg- breaking facility began operations in July with then-owners North Central Equity LLC expecting the plant to process about 1 million eggs per day with plans for growth. Growth is still part of the plans for the plant under its new ownership.
Cooper told The Daily Standard that in time more value-added products will be included in the liquid egg stream already at the facility. A high-tech process is used to slice open eggs and separate egg whites from yolks to produce three products: mixed white and yolk, all white and all yolk.
Cooper said more employees may be needed in about a year and a half. The plant currently employs about 45 people.
The purchase of Perham Egg marks the second acquisition for Cooper Farms in the second half of 2014 that will strengthen its egg division. In August, Cooper Farms acquired Fort Recovery Equity, a chicken egg-layer and pullet cooperative, also based in Fort Recovery.
