Brazil’s poultry meat production reached almost 12.7 billion tons in 2014, an increase of 3.11 percent.
Despite the market slowdown as the year drew to a close, the sector ended in positive territory and the final figure was in line with industry expectations.
Consumption of poultry meat in the country rose by 2.2 percent to stand at 42.78 kg.
According to Francisco Turra, executive president the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA): “There was a switch in the consumption of animal protein last year due to the high prices of beef, which reached historically high levels. Higher consumption was also influenced by 2014’s strong influx of tourists, due to the World Cup.”
According to official statistics, approximately 1 million tourists visited Brazil last year.
