A Horizon Foods poultry plant that opened in Pine Bluff, Ark., in 2012 has closed its doors. Horizon Foods shut down the facility on June 3, but is seeking a buyer or new investors so it can resume operations.
Horizon opened in the summer of 2012 after investor Rory Botto said $3 million went toward renovating the plant, which was built in 1957. The plant had previously been operated by Tyson Foods. Tyson closed the plant in 2003.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported the plant processed older laying hens and shipped the meat overseas. The plant employed about 180 people.
