Weather effect on UK grain supply discussed at conference

In the wake of last year's poor quality harvest, the United Kingdom supply chain has been faced with a succession of weather shocks. The loss of neonicotinoid seed treatments has also prompted concerns about future access to other key chemicals in Europe.
With the theme "Redefining Resilience: How Prepared is the Industry to Withstand Future Shocks?" the Grain Market Outlook Conference will focus on the impact of weather disturbances on the UK supply chain's resilience, how equipped farmers are to manage dramatic, long term change and potential consequences. The conference, hosted by Britain's Home Grown Cereals Authority, will be held October 15 at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Center in London, England.
Attendees to the conference will hear from four industry experts on the 2013 crop, listen to insight on Chinese grain and oilseed markets and discuss thoughts on the long term strength of the UK arable sector.
    Keynote speakers include:
    • Jack Watts, Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, senior oilseeds and cereals analyst -- Cereals Market Outlook
    • Christopher Gadd, MacQuarrie Securities -- Oilseeds Markets in UK and Europe
    • Silvia Renn, FC Stone -- China: An Inside View
    • Graham Redman, Andersons -- Resilience in the United Kingdom Cereals Industry
