Sanderson Farms hopes to break ground on Texas plant in September

Sanderson Farms  could break ground on its future poultry processing complex in Palestine, Texas, as early as September, Sanderson Farms CEO, Joe Sanderson Jr., announced August 27 during the company's third-quarter conference call with shareholders.
"Our due diligence and related permitting processes are substantially complete for our previously announced Palestine, Texas, facility," said Sanderson. "Most conditions precedent to breaking ground on the new poultry complex have been met, and we hope to finalize a date to begin construction of the new feed mill, hatchery, processing plant and wastewater treatment facilities in September, subject to final approval by our board of directors."
Sanderson complimented the public officials and residents in Palestine, Anderson County, Freestone County and Austin, who "have bent over backwards to welcome us into their communities."
The Palestine project was first announced during the company's first quarter conference call in February. The plan is to build a big, bird-deboning complex, which will consist of a feed mill, hatchery, poultry processing plant and wastewater treatment facility.
Sanderson said he is optimistic the company's balance sheet is in good shape to facilitate the construction. He is equally confident the upcoming corn and soybean harvests will be plentiful enough to enable the company access to affordable feed.
