Perdue Farms gives $4,000 to help fund new library

Perdue Farms, through a $4,000 grant funded by the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, is supporting the Friends of the Greenwood Public Library in its campaign to build a new home for the Greenwood Public Library in Sussex County. The library has served the community since 1978. A grand opening ceremony for the new facility is scheduled for June 24 at the Mill Street location.
“We’re thrilled to have the support of Perdue and the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation,” said Patricia Brown, director of the Greenwood Public Library. “It’s because of community partners such as Perdue that enabled us to realize our goal to provide a new facility for our community.”
The State of Delaware and Sussex County each provided $1.55 million toward the $3.25 million project. The Friends of the Greenwood Library raised the remaining $150,000.
As Brown explained, the new state-of-the art, 10,400-square-foot library will feature 24 computers, a separate “Teen Room” where students can work in a quiet space to complete homework assignments and projects away from other library patron, large and small conference rooms for use by the community, and expanded space to store the library’s collection of books, periodicals and research materials. The new facility also meets federal Americans with Disability Act requirements.
