China’s poultry production in 2014 experienced a noticeable drop in poultry production and poultry slaughter when compared to 2013, but egg production in China saw a small increase.
Boyar reported that according to a National Bureau of Statistics bulletin that outlined China’s animal protein production in 2014, poultry production in China, which also dropped in 2013, declined by about 2.7 percent with production reaching 17.51 million metric tons. The poultry industry has been attempting to recover from outbreaks of H7N9 avian influenza in the country.
The report further stated that China’s Guangdong province recorded 950 million poultry birds slaughtered in 2014, a drop of 8.6 percent when compared to 2013.
Chinese egg production in 2014
Egg production in China in 2014 was recorded at 28.94 million metric tons, an increase of 0.6 percent when compared to 2013.
Meat production in China increases
China’s total meat production reached 87.07 metric tons in 2014, representing a 2 percent year-over-year increase.
Chinese pork production was up 3.2 percent at 56.71 metric tons. The number of pigs slaughtered in 2014 was 735.1 percent, a 2.7 percent increase when compared to 2013.
Beef production in China in 2014 totaled 6.89 million metric tons, an increase of 2.4 percent. Lamb production was recorded at 4.28 million metric tons in China in 2014, a 4.9 percent increase.
