Salisbury Poultry has been given approval to convert a former U.K. cheese plant into a poultry plant.
    From WATTAgNet:
The U.K.’s Salisbury Poultry has received approval to convert the former Marchwiel’s Maelor Creamery cheese-packing plant in Marchwiel, Wrexham, into a poultry processing plant.
Wrexham councillors on March 2 approved plans to transform the former cheese plant, which closed nearly one year ago, into a poultry processing plant.
Salisbury Poultry has stated the company it would invest GBP10 million (US$15.4 million) to start up the plant. The company, in its application, said the future poultry processing plant could have a daily processing capacity of 122 tons and would employ as many as 150 people. The company also says it hopes to recruit workers from disadvantaged parts of the area and employees of the former cheese plant.
Stephen Hammond, commercial director of Salisbury Poultry, said: "Wrexham works well for us as a place to extend our business and at the same time we can make a major contribution to the town and a wide surrounding area that will feel the benefits through the supply chain we will require."
Bilston-based Salisbury Poultry produces fresh and frozen poultry products, including bespoke hand-finished products, deboned portions, breast fillets, thigh meat and supremes. The company operates from three modern sites, with 400 employees.
