CorporateRegister.com, annual presenter of the world's leading corporate responsibility report awards, has honored Smithfield Foods, Inc.'s 2013 Integrated Report as the second runner-up in the Openness and Honesty, and Innovation in Reporting categories.
The Openness and Honesty category recognizes companies that report a balanced picture of both their good and bad news. The Innovation in Reporting award honors companies that "demonstrate new ways of approaching a reporting issue, of interacting with stakeholders [and] of presenting an overall picture," CorporateRegister.com said.
"We strive every day to be accountable and transparent in everything we do and to tell our story in ways that resonate with stakeholders," said C. Larry Pope, president and chief executive officer of Smithfield. "This recognition from CorporateRegister.com is truly an honor."
Dennis Treacy, executive vice president and chief sustainability officer, said the awards are a direct result of the continuous efforts of Smithfield employees. "We are so proud of them for the tremendous job they do every day."
This year's awards mark the second time the group has recognized Smithfield's corporate responsibility reporting. In 2014, Smithfield was awarded first place in the Openness and Honesty category and runner up in the Best Integrated Report category for its 2012 Integrated Report.
The 2015 CorporateRegister.com Reporting Awards received 166 entries across nine categories for the reporting period September 2013 - September 2014. Voting for the awards was open to CorporateRegister.com's more than 40,000 members and was not open to employees of the participating companies.
