Pork exports from Denmark continued to show modest growth for the first six months of 2015, reaching about 555,000 metric tons. That amount reflects a growth of 1 percent when compared to the first six months of 2014.
According to a recent AHDB Pork Pig Market Weekly newsletter, the increase in the amount of pork exported did not translate into a monetary increase in pork exports. The total value of those pork exports fell by 9 percent to around DKK8.4 billion (US$1.3 billion).
The European Union (EU) remains the primary market for pork from Denmark, with exports increasing 3 percent when compared to the corresponding time frame in 2014. Danish pork also saw a 7 percent increase in sales to Poland, a 15 percent increase in sales to Italy, and a 10 percent increase in sales to the U.K., while exports to Germany dropped by about 2 percent.
Outside of the EU, Danish pork exports saw a decline of about three percent. Denmark shipped about 12 percent more pork to China and about 25 percent more pork to Australia during the first half of 2015. However, exports to Japan, which remains the largest market for Danish pork, declined by approximately 25 percent.
