US broiler eggs set in a trend of weekly decline

The number of broiler eggs set in commercial hatcheries in the United States declined for the fourth consecutive week, according to the UDSA's September 25 Broiler Hatchery report. Despite the recent decline in broiler eggs set, the number of eggs set is still up 1 percent when compared to the corresponding week of 2012.
About 191 million broiler eggs were set during the week ending September 21, nearly a 2 percent drop when compared to the week ending September 14, and a 6 percent decline from the 202 million broiler eggs set during the week ending August 24. The number of broiler eggs set has declined each week since August 24, with the biggest drop taking place during the week ending September 7, when the egg numbers went from 200 million to 195 million.
The report showed more stability for the number of broiler chicks placed. An estimated 165 million chicks were placed during the week ending September 21, down 1 million from the week ending September 14 but up nearly 1 million from the week ending August 21. Chicks placed during the most recent reporting period were up 3 million from the comparable week of 2012.

US broiler eggs set up 2 percent

Commercial hatcheries in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's 19-state weekly program set 200 million eggs in incubators during the week ending June 29, up 2 percent from the broiler eggs set the corresponding week in 2012. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 84 percent, according to the agency's Broiler Hatchery report, released on July 3.
Meanwhile, broiler growers in the program placed 168 million chicks for meat production during the week ending June 29. Chick placements were up 1 percent from the comparable week in 2012. Cumulative placements from December 30, 2012 through June 29 for the 19-state total were 4.28 billion, up slightly from the same period a year earlier, according to the report. 

US broiler eggs up two percent second week of January

Broiler-type eggs sets in the U.S. were up two percent January 12 from the previous week, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s latest broiler hatchery report, released January 16. Commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly program set 197 million eggs in incubators during the most recent week.
Average hatchability for chicks was at 85 percent. Growers placed 165 million broiler-type chicks during the week ending January 12, with placements up one percent from the same week in 2012. Cumulative placements from December 30, 2012, through January 12, were at 328 million, up one percent from the same period in 2011–2012.

US broiler eggs placed up 2 percent at end of November

U.S. commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly program set 198 million broiler eggs in incubators during the week ending December 1, up 2 percent from the eggs set the corresponding week in 2011, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's latest report.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 85 percent. Broiler growers in the program placed 160 million chicks for meat production during the week ending December 1, down 1 percent from the comparable week in 2011. Cumulative placements from January 1 through December 1 were 7.76 billion, down 2 percent from the same period in 2011, according to the USDA.

Commercial hatcheries in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's 19-state weekly program set 186 million eggs in incubators during the week ending October 27, up 1 percent from the eggs set the corresponding week in 2011.
Georgia, Alabama and Arkansas were the top three states in the program, setting 30.17 million, 25.76 million and 20.12 million eggs, respectively. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 85 percent.
Broiler growers in the program placed 157 million chicks for meat production during the week ending October 27, up 2 percent from the comparable week in 2011, according to the USDA. Georgia, Alabama and Arkansas took the top three spots, with 26.58 million, 19.38 million and 19.26 million chicks placed during the week. Cumulative placements from January 1 through October 27 were 6.99 billion, down 2 percent from the same period in 2011.

Commercial hatcheries in the U.S. 19-state weekly program set 186 million eggs in incubators during the week ending September 29, up 2 percent from the eggs set the corresponding week in 2011, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's latest report.
Georgia, Alabama and Arkansas continue to be the top three states for eggs set, placing 30.7 million, 26.1 million and 20.2 million eggs, respectively. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 85 percent.
Broiler growers in the program placed 154 million chicks for meat production during the week ending September 29. Georgia has placed 25.97 million chicks, Alabama has placed 19.46 million chicks and Arkansas has placed 17.31 million chicks. Placements were up slightly from the comparable week in 2011, according to the USDA. Cumulative placements from January 1 through September 29 were 6.37 billion, down 2 percent from the same period in 2011.

U.S. commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly program set 197 million eggs in incubators during the week ending July 28, up 1 percent from the eggs set the corresponding week in 2011, according to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture report.
Georgia set the most eggs, with 31.57 million. Alabama and Arkansas round out the top three, with 28.2 million and 20.9 million eggs set, respectively. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 85 percent.
Broiler growers in the program placed 161 million chicks for meat production during the week, down 1 percent from the comparable week in 2011. Georgia, Alabama and Arkansas make up the top three growers, placing 28.3 million, 19.4 million and 19.3 million chicks. Cumulative placements from January 1 through July 28 were 4.93 billion, down 3 percent from the same period in 2011, according to the USDA.

Georgia set the most eggs, at 31.7 million. Alabama and Arkansas rounded out the top three, setting 27.9 million eggs and 20.8 million eggs, respectively. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 85 percent.
Broiler growers in the program placed 166 million chicks for meat production during the week ending June 30, down 2 percent from the comparable week in 2011. Georgia, Alabama and Arkansas also placed the most chicks, at 27.2 million, 20.8 million and 19.9 million chicks, respectively. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 85 percent. Of the states in the program, Georgia set the most eggs, with 33 million. Alabama and Arkansas rounded out the top three, setting 28.3 million and 21.6 million eggs, respectively.
Broiler growers in the program placed 167 million chicks for meat production during the week ending June 2, down 3 percent from the comparable week in 2011. Georgia, Arkansas and Alabama were also the top three states for chick placement, at 27.6 million, 20.8 million and 20.1 million chicks, respectively. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 85 percent. Georgia set the most eggs, with 32.36 million, and Alabama and Arkansas set the second and third most, with 27.19 million and 21.25 million eggs, respectively. Broiler growers in the program placed 167 million chicks for meat production during the week ending April 28. Placements were down 3 percent from the comparable week in 2011. Cumulative placements from January 1 through April 28 were 2.77 billion, down 4 percent from the same period in 2011.

US broiler production expected to decline through end 2011

Broiler stocks will end the year at 660 million pounds.

U.S. broiler production is expected to decline at the end of the third quarter in 2011 and moving into the fourth quarter as reductions in the number of chicks placed for growout more than offset higher average weights, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Broiler cold storage holdings are expected to end 2011 at 660 million pounds, down considerably from 2010 numbers. Lower production and lower stock levels are expected to eventually place upward pressure on prices, but this effect will be partially offset by a sluggish domestic economy.
Turkey production was higher in August, but is expected to decline in the fourth quarter of 2011. Lower stock levels for whole turkeys have placed upward price pressure on whole birds. Wholesale whole-hen turkey prices have increased, with third-quarter prices averaging $1.06 per pound, up 9% from 2010 numbers.

U.S. commercial hatcheries in the 19-state weekly program set 192 million eggs in incubators during the week ending Aug. 27, 2011, down 7% from the eggs set the corresponding week in 2010 (see chart).
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 85%.
Broiler growers in the program placed 164 million chicks for meat production during the week, down 4% from the comparable week in 2010. Cumulative placements from Jan. 2, 2011, through Aug. 27, 2011, were 5.75 billion, down 1% from 2010 numbers (see chart).
