According to a recent Center for Consumer Freedom poll conducted by the Opinion Research Cooperation, 71% of 1,008 people questioned think that the Humane Society of the United States is an umbrella group for local humane societies.
A total of 59% believed that HSUS contributes most of its income to local shelters. But the group contributes less than 0.5% of its budget to local pet shelters and is not affiliated with any local humane society, according to the center and its Humane Watch site.
