U.K. turkey producer Bernard Matthews has confirmed that it has begun a staff consultation process with its workforce at its Lincs Turkeys processing site at Grainthorpe, Lincolnshire, as a result of its proposal to close the site.
The decision comes after a significant reduction in Christmas orders for Lincs Turkeys in 2014. The site had become economically unviable, Bernard Matthews said, adding that the business would be integrated into the company’s Norfolk and Suffolk sites. Eighty employees will be let go.
The company adds that it remains firmly committed to its Lincs Turkey business, and its farming operation will remain unchanged.
