US corn harvest makes big strides

The U.S. corn harvest made strong progress in the past week, according to Neogen’s Monday Mycotoxin Report from November 2. As harvest progressed, additional states reported mycotoxins.
In the past week, above-average temperatures across the U.S. accelerated the corn harvest, and major advances were made.
Corn maturity in the U.S. has reached 100 percent. The amount of corn harvested has reached 75 percent, well ahead of 44 percent one year ago, and ahead of the five-year average of 68 percent.

New reports of mycotoxins

Alabama was added to the list of states with confirmed reports of aflatoxin, at more than 20 parts per billion. That is in addition to the previously reported list:

• Georgia
• Texas
• North Carolina
• South Carolina
• Virginia
• Oklahoma
• Kansas
• Tennessee

New confirmed reports of DON in corn came from Indiana (more than 1 part per million), Ohio (more than 2 ppm), New York (more than 3 ppm).
That is in addition to the previously reported list:

• Missouri
• Illinois
• Iowa
• Michigan
• Minnesota
• Wisconsin
