Thousands of chickens have been killed in a March 30 fire at Centrum Valley Farms' egg operation in Galt, Iowa. The cause of the Centrum Valley Farms fire is under investigation.
Centrum Valley Farms Chief Operating Officer Steve Boomsma informed KIMT-TV that the egg farm fire began in a barn where about 75,000 hens were housed. Boomsma said that in addition to that loss, smoke from the fire resulted in the loss of of 75,000 additional hens in an adjacent barn. No damage estimate has yet been given.
Centrum Valley Farms is now focusing on the well-being of the remaining chickens at the farm.
No Centrum Valley Farms employees were injured.
