Poultry was Kentucky's top-grossing product for the second year in 2010, with cash receipts coming in at $953 million, according to statistics released to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The number beat 2009's total of $912 million, and both numbers have outgrown Kentucky's now second-largest industry, horses. Cattle and calves came in third, at $616 million for 2010, while corn and soybeans took the fourth and fifth spots with $604 million and $583 million, respectively. They were the highest-grossing planted crops for 2010.
Overall, the state's 2010 cash receipts came in at $4.4 billion, topping 2009's $4.3 billion.
