Aviagen hosts laboratory training for Saudi customers

Aviagen welcomed a group of Ross customers and distributors from Saudi Arabia to its cutting-edge Scottish laboratory facility last week as part of its on-going technical transfer and customer support program. The five-day event, held twice-annually, was hosted by Hosam Amro, Technical Service Manager for Ross for the Turkey, Middle East and Africa region, and joined by Regional Veterinarian Dr. Pavel Shkarlat. The training was led by Dr. Kara Friel, Laboratory Manager, Aviagen Limited, and her team spent time with the visitors to share their knowledge of quality customer service, introducing the newest laboratory skills and testing methods.
The training is aimed at explaining the importance of effective laboratory techniques and improving the care and performance of Aviagen flocks. The training was spread over five days with different programs for each day. The guests were also given the opportunity to participate in individual one-on-one meetings with the department supervisors, where they could ask key questions.
The attendees were given insight into the latest research and development work taking place within Aviagen, including time spent in the different areas of the laboratory, including virology, serology, bacteriology, and the molecular departments. They were also shown how weekly controls work, why they are important, and what procedures should be followed. Furthermore, they were given an overview of the set up and maintenance of quality control.
“These training sessions enable us to meet our customers and colleagues, get to know them, and adapt our training to meet their specific needs”, said Dr. Kara Friel. “Building relationships is part of our aim of providing as much support as possible to our customers. All our trainees will take back new techniques and advice to their own labs and pass on tips to their colleagues.”
Hosam Amro added: “Our visitors enjoyed the lab set up and the traceability system demonstrated for different tests through each stage was of particular interest.
“I believe our guests went home with lots of important notes on key topics such as; Equipment Calibration and Standard Operating Procedures for each test plus the detailed Quality Control measures applied.
“Everyone highly appreciated the hospitality and the willingness of the Lab Team to discuss in detail every question and the background of any particular measurements.”
The Aviagen laboratory in Scotland is widely regarded as one of the most advanced in the world and its laboratory training program has been running for more than 15 years.
