An outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza has struck poultry in the Hoa Binh province of Vietnam. There were 700 ducks and 475 chickens susceptible, according to a report from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported the outbreak to the OIE on October 14. Of the susceptible birds, 370 died and the other 805 were destroyed.
Control measures used include stamping out, movement control inside the country, vaccinations and disinfection of the infected premises.
