Atlantic Poultry barn fire causes losses of chickens, structure

A chicken breeder barn operated by Atlantic Poultry in Waterville, Nova Scotia, was heavily damaged by a fire that broke out late April 26. The cause of the fire, which killed at least 5,500 chickens, is under investigation.
According to Novanewsnow.com, nine fire departments responded to a report of a two-story poultry barn on fire around 10:40 p.m. April 26. The crews remained on the scene until around 4 a.m. the following day.
The barn is about 300 feet long and had an estimated 11,000 birds inside. At least half of those birds were lost in the fire, according to a fire department spokesman.  About half of the barn was also destroyed by the fire. No other structures on the property were harmed.
