After the record high achieved in July, the value of Brazil’s poultry exports rose again in August.
According to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), exports during August were worth US$676.7 million, an increase of 5.7 percent in comparison with August 2013. By volume, exports were 0.3 percent lower at 332,400 tons.
Reporting on the first eight months of the year, the association notes that the volume of poultry exports rose by 1.7 percent to stand at 2.61 million tons, while by value there was a decrease of 4.5 percent to US$5.17 billion.
According to Ricardo Santin, ABPA’s vice president, the poultry sector’s performance during the month of August – above the average for the year - suggests an improved outlook for the industry during the second half of the year as international demand and prices continue to improve.
“The authorization of new plants to ship to Russia, together with the increase in the shipments to China, the recognition of five more processing plants, and the strong upturn in demand for chicken from Venezuela, will be important factors during the second half,” he added.
