Poultry processor Sanderson Farms has been honored for its efforts in water conservation, being named the Industrial Groundwater Conservationist of the Year by the Brazos Valley Groundwater Conservation District (BVGCD) in Texas. The award was presented during a city council meeting in Bryan, Texas.
BVGCD officials said Sanderson Farms has actively focused on water conservation and the implementation of technology that would reduce its dependence on groundwater, according to reports. Between 2008 and 2013, the company saw a 42 percent decrease in the amount of groundwater used from the Simsboro aquifer, BVGCD officials said.
