Chris Sharp, Kelly's Foods, speaks to the crowd at the National Poultry & Food Distributors Association annual convention after accepting the 2014 member of the year award.
Sharp, a 1994 graduate of the University of Florida, began working in the poultry industry in 1998 after a stint in the newspaper business. He joined Kelly's Foods in 1998 to help the company modernize its information technology (IT), but soon more deeply involved in the Kelly's Foods operations. He is now the vice president of administration, overseeing not only the Kelly's Foods IT, but also supervising all of Kelly's Foods office staff. He also serves as a liaison for franchise customers.
"He's never taken the importance of his job at Kelly's Foods for granted," his award nominees said in a video prior to the award presentation. "Chris has consistently been one of the hardest workers, and his ideas have improved employee morale, customer satisfaction and the bottom line. Over the years, Chris has brought a level of passion and commitment that makes people want to work for him, and customers want to work with him. If there's any way that Kelly's Foods can more effectively serve its customers, Chris will find it."
Sharp joined the NPFDA board of directors in 2006 and quickly became an integral part of the organization. He was elected NPFDA board president in 2011, and even though his term as president is over, he remains active in the organization and NPFDA board members value his insight.
Sharp humbly accepted the award, giving credit to others in the organization.
"I don't feel deserving in any way of this award. There's a lot of people on the board who do a lot more than I do," he said. "I could go down the list of folks that do so much for NPFDA, but I appreciate you all for thinking what I've done has helped in any way. I'm proud to help."
