USDA approves TÜV Rheinland for heavy metals analysis

TUV Rheinland of North America has been approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) - Agricultural Marketing Services (AMS) Laboratory Verification Program for analysis of poultry products destined for exportation from the U.S. to Russia. The company's consumer products testing laboratory in Bentonville, AR performs the testing for the designated heavy metals.
To test the poultry products for arsenic, lead, mercury and cadmium, TÜV Rheinland's lab employs the use of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and microwave digestion methods. The company currently serves as a subcontractor with WBA Analytical Laboratories for the full program requirements.
In-plant residue sampling is conducted on an individual farm basis following the Russian export guidelines established by the USDA. Private laboratories provide many of the testing services, and the USDA verifies the results through the above mentioned AMS Laboratory Verification Program.
A detailed list of all of the program's approved laboratories can be found on the AMS website.
TÜV Rheinland's Bentonville lab is also accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) and officially approved as a third-party testing laboratory by the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) to provide certain chemical and mechanical testing on a variety of consumer products.
