According to an announcement made by Rosselkhoznadzor, the Russian federal service for veterinary and phytosanitary surveillance, inspections were conducted from September 29 through October 10 at Bangkla Pig Slaughter House and Betagro Safety Meat Packing, with both plants obtaining the right to export pork products to Russia.
An expert from Rosselkhoznadzor that has been assigned to Thailand will control production and shipment of pork products intended for the Russian market. The assigned expert will oversee the processes for the purpose of provision of additional safety guarantees.
The decision made by Rosselkhoznadzor allows additional trade opportunities for Russia, which has had limited options since the country’s government implemented trade bans concerning agricultural products from many of the world’s leading pork markets. On August 6, following a decree from President Vladimir Putin, Russia implemented a ban of pork and other food products from the United States, Canada, Australia, the European Union and Norway.
Since that ban has been in place, Russia has approved the import of meat, including pork, form five Chinese companies. Russia has also since implemented talks with exporters from several Latin American countries.
