The first batch of 100,000 U.S. chicks has arrived at the Lutai BCOF Agricultural Circular Economy Laying Hen Industrial Demonstration Zone in China, signaling the beginning of production for Asia’s largest laying hen breeding base.
The Lutai facility is co-funded by BCOF, Hy-Line International, Big Dutchman, MOBA, and CSC, according to a report provided by Smart Agriculture Analytics. The total investment for the project is CNY1.176 billion (US$190 million). The facility occupies a total area of 1,089 mu (180 acres), which includes a laying hen farm, a pullet farm, an egg processing plant, a feed processing plant, an organic fertilizer plant, and facilities dedicated to biotechnology research and development, organic farming, and logistics.
Hy-line International, a world leader in poultry layer genetics that produces and sells both brown and white egg stock to more than 120 countries worldwide, is responsible for providing high-quality chicks to the project, and the German and Dutch companies contributed processing equipment. Construction of the feed facility, which will have the capacity for producing 200,000 metric tons of feed on an annual basis, has officially started. Construction for the egg processing plant and the pullet farm has been progressing. Plans for the location of the organic fertilizer plant are in the process of being finalized.
