The company was recently granted a ten-year tax abatement from the Steuben County Council on an estimated $9 million for building expansions and an additional $4.15 million in new machinery and equipment, according to a news release from Steuben County Economic Development Corp. The company has also received up to $150,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $50,000 in training assistance from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.
The expansion includes three building products that will add about 90,000 square feet to the facilities. Equipment to be added includes an automatic blast freezing tunnel, weigh price machines and automated packaging equipment.
According to the WATT Global Media Top Companies Database, Miller Poultry produced about 1.67 million pounds of ready to cook chicken on a weekly basis in 2014. Its brand is Amish Country Poultry.
The Miller Poultry website states that its products are primarily distributed in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan, and are sold in stores including Kroger, Nash Finch, Delco Foods Stores and Super Valu.
Miller Poultry, which has been a family owned operation since 1942, has about 550 employees. The company’s expansion would add about 34 new employees over the next four years.
