A Virginia turkey farm lost an estimated 12,500 birds and at least one poultry barn to a fire that occurred on Thanksgiving Day.
According to an Associated Press report published in the Washington Times, firefighters were dispatched to Pendleton’s Farm, located near Shenandoah, Virginia.
The cause of the turkey farm fire has not yet been determined, James Williams, assistant fire chief of the Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Company, told the newspaper. However, the cause does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
Williams said the fire, which started around 4 p.m., could have spread to two other poultry houses on the farm, and damage estimates are around $400,000.
