Avian influenza detected at poultry market in China

Samples taken from a wet poultry market in the Guangdong province in China have tested positive for H7N9 avian influenza. Two goose meat samples, along with one sewage water sample from two poultry booths at the market in the city of Zengcheng tested positive, officials from the Guangdong Provincial Center of Disease Control and Prevention confirmed.
The market was shut down on December 4 and will remain closed through December 7 so disinfection can take place, according to news reports. Seventeen workers at the market are going through medical evaluations, but so far have not shown any signs of avian influenza infection.
More than 140 human cases of avian influenza in China have been reported since March 2013, including 45 fatalities.
