Sanderson Farms hatchery site preparation has begun

Crews are busy clearing land at the site that will soon be home to Sanderson Farm’s new $17 million hatchery near Lumberton, North Carolina.
In addition to building a new feed mill, Sanderson Farms will also build a new poultry processing plant in St. Pauls, North Carolina. Both are located in North Carolina’s Robeson County.
While work on the hatchery site is under way, county officials told the Fayetteville Observer that site work will begin before the end of August at the St. Pauls location where the poultry plant is to be built.
The county recently approved a financial incentives package, offering Sanderson Farms more than $5.67 million in grants. The county has also pledged 100 percent tax reimbursements on construction costs that are incurred by the company in 2015 and 2015.
The Sanderson Farms expansion is expected to add 1,100 jobs to the Robeson County economy. Once completed, the Sanderson Farms poultry plant will be equipped to process and sell about 500 million pounds of dressed poultry meat annually, significantly increasing the company’s production.
Presently the third largest broiler company in the United States, Sanderson Farms produced 58.8 million pounds of ready-to-cook chicken on a weekly basis in 2014, according to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database.  Sanderson Farms is headquartered in Laurel, Mississippi.
