Over 255 Valco Companies Inc. employees
are donating a total of 2,040 volunteer hours when the company shuts down its
operations in New Holland and Bird in Hand, Penn., and Coldwater, Ohio, to
participate in the United Way's Day of Caring on September 7.
The Lancaster County, Penn., Valco committee selected several organizations to which
employees will volunteer time, talent and goods: The United Way through its “Day
of Caring” — nine locations, the Central PA Food Bank, Keystone Soldiers and
Schreiber Pediatrics. The Ohio team chose Celina Ministerial Association’s
Community Servants Day (September 21), and contributions to Our Home Family
Resource Center of Mercer County, Thanks to Our Yanks and community blood drives
as their specific philanthropic efforts.
The Valco employees had a mission to “convey Valco’s commitment to
stewardship by facilitating opportunities for all employees to voluntarily
participate as a team in coordinated efforts that embody a spirit of caring, and
which have a positive impact in our community” and represent a cross-section of
the company’s management and operational employees. Each team was challenged to
identify philanthropic opportunities consistent with Valco’s values, develop a
plan and generate enthusiasm throughout the organization that would unite their
three distinct business locations around a common goal.
