More chicken and egg companies recognized in Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards

Poland's SPA Food was awarded a Good Chicken Award in Compassion in the 2013 Compassion in World Farming Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards, the first time that a Polish company has been recognized in the awards.
France's Monoprix was the first French retailer to receive a Good Egg Award, while Globus was the first German retailer to receive Good Chicken Award in the annual event. From the UK, Jamie Oliver earned a Good Chicken Award, along with a Good Egg Award and a Good Pig Award.
This year saw the usually separate UK and European events combined into one, focusing on the biggest players in the food industry. Compassion in World Farming awards smaller businesses and public sector organizations on a rolling basis throughout the year, however the awards ceremony is an opportunity to focus on those companies that can have the most impact on farm animal welfare standards.
The Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards recognize companies that demonstrate their commitment to meeting a set of species-specific welfare criteria. A total of 28 awards were presented at this year's ceremony.
