The current highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreak affecting commercial poultry flocks across North America has reduced the number of birds available in the Jennie-O Turkey Store supply chain. As a result, the company announced it will lay off workers at its turkey plant in Faribault, Minnesota.
Jennie-O Turkey Store will move to a single processing shift at the plant for the foreseeable future, effective May 26. A total of 233 employees will be affected by the Faribault plant layoffs.
“This will be a temporary layoff and our intent is to have everyone come back to work when bird numbers return to normal levels,” said Randy L. Vergin, plant manager. “We do not have an anticipated return to work date at this time, but look forward to welcoming our team members back when production levels return to normal.”
