Cherkizovo officially opens refurbished Zarechnaya poultry facility

Cherkizovo, Russia's largest meat producer, has officially reopened its Zarechnaya poultry production facility following refurbishment.
A total of Ruble 900 million (US$27 million) has been invested at the site, including the renovation of 41 bird houses with a capacity for 38,000 birds. The site's slaughtering facilities have also been modernized. The site now has a production capacity of 23,500 tons live weight.
"The launch of the modernized facility will not only substantially increase the capacity of Vasilievsky Poultry Factory, which is more than 110,000 [metric tons] live weight per year, but will also increase supply to the slaughtering facility," explained Dmitry Reznichenko, CEO of OJSC Vasilievsky Poultry Factory. "Consumption of poultry meat in Russia is growing year by year, and Penza region is no exception."
The company bought the idle plant in 2010 as part of a project to increase capacity at its Penza poultry cluster.
First deputy minister of the Penza region, Sergey Churakov, who took part in the official opening, commented that the factory would help to make Penza one of the leading poultry meat producers in the Volga district.
