Former poultry producers have taken to the streets in the southern Brazilian city of Jaragua complaining of financial difficulties following the closure of the local unit of Seara Alimentos.
Seara closed its local facilities in 2011, at which time it operated 200 contracts with local poultry producers. Only some 30 producers have been able to transfer their contracts to other Seara units in the state.
The group of poultry producers called on the government, which it accused of breaking promises made at the time of the closure, to support them and others in the agricultural sector affected by the closure, reports the local press.
