Chicken sales are down in the Nepal districts of Udaypur and Khotang after bird flu was found in some poultry farms in the neighboring district of Sunsari, according to reports. No bird flu has been found in either Udaypur or Khotang, said the District Agriculture Development Offices of both areas.
Demand for poultry has dropped up to 50 percent in some areas, according to farmers, and traders are suffering significant losses. "Fowl on my farm are ready for market, but I am not finding buyers because people are hesitant to consume poultry products," said Udaypur farmer Keshav Karki.
