Vietnam has reported its second death due to bird flu in 2012, according to the country's Ministry of Health's Preventative Medicine Department.
A 26-year-old woman died on January 28, five days after she was admitted to the hospital and was found to have contracted H5N1 avian influenza. The victim's family said she had slaughtered sick poultry and eaten infected meat. Genetics analysis shows that the flu types in the two recent cases are similar to that of a poultry virus.
