Brazilian farm cooperative Cocari has closed on the sale of its poultry processing plant in Paraná to the Aurora Foods group of cooperatives, according to local reports. The transaction was valued at BRL250 million (US$81.7 million)
The poultry processing plant has capacity for handling about 140,000 birds per day. Its purchase increases the poultry processing capacity at Aurora Foods to 900,000 birds daily in a total of seven plants.
Aurora is an agri-food conglomerate owned by 12 farming co-ops, operating eight pig units in addition to feed mills and pig slaughter/processing plants. The company has feed production of more than 1 million tons annually, according to the WATT Global Media Top Companies Database.
Cocari is primarily a producer of pet food and poultry feed.
