A Herbruck's Poultry Ranch barn was damage by a fire in the early morning hours of April 2.
    From WATTAgNet:
A barn at a Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch operation in Ionia County, Michigan, was damaged by a fire that broke out on April 2.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at the farm operated by the state’s largest egg producer around 2 a.m. April 2, where they found flames on the west end of a pole barn. The firefighters’ actions were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the barn. No chickens were lost in the fire, and no people were injured.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and no damage estimate has yet been made available.
Headquartered in Saranac, Michigan, Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch is the 14th largest egg company in the United States, housing 6.6 million laying hens, according to the WATT Global Media Top Companies Database. The company raises 60 percent of Michigan’s eggs.
Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch is not the only U.S. egg producer to have been affected by a fire in recent weeks. Giroux’s Poultry Farm on March 19 lost one of five barns at an operation in Chazy, New York. An estimated 50,000 hens were lost in the fire. Co-owner Craig Giroux said the company plans to rebuild.
